Introduction

What is a Veda?

Veda is Sanskrit for “A Dissertation in the Science of Clear Perception”. There are four recognized Vedas, written by the early Indus Valley Civilization. The first dates from as early as the 18^th century BC, the last around 1200 BC. The Fifth, mentioned in the Chandogya Upanishad, which was primarily concerned with entomology, is lost.

This is the Sixth.

The prior four are the Rig, Sama, Yajur, and Atharva Vedas. They are collections of recipes, monographs, ritual processes, and myths. They are best known for their collections of spiritual research called the Upanishads.

What is an Upanishad?

Upanishad means to “bind the truth to the mind”. As textbooks, they are called “Penetrators of the Mysteries of Life”. While much of the Vedic content is either lost or impossible to translate, the Upanishads, which number 108, were carefully preserved so their wisdom could be used by spiritual seekers for all time.

The Upanishads are the earliest known written religious documents, remarkable in their grasp of science, physics, psychology, anthropology, and sociology. They dare humanity to live and behave well at the same time.

The Upanishads explain how all of this can happen in subtle if elusive language. Their teachings are wasted on the pedestrian student who just wants to say his prayers, dog ear the Bible and be on his way.

Study of the Upanishads is meant to accompany the Direct Experience of unity that exists between the embodied soul, its Maker, and the fellowship of all living things. Without this fundamental element, the beauteous destiny of humanity will be out of reach. Not just for the disenchanted and disenfranchised as we are learning, but for all of us.

We engage the Masters, Prophets, and Messengers through the Upanishads to make the opposite, a Direct Connection to the Holy Spirit through all the Media He uses for His Transmittal. Through These, His Hosts, Direct Experience is possible. I add that it is inevitable, unavoidable.

Instruction in the technique of Direct Experience through Upanishad begins with transmission of their Graces by a Guru, One Who Has Gone Before and touched the Hem of the Great Soul. The hallmarks of such a being are, for the most part, evident in their pedigrees, though the Journey into Mystery begins with one’s intuition about the Teacher.

Mine, Swami Chinmayananda told me shame and guilt were not God’s Will for me, and asked me to read Chapter 16:24 of the Bhagavad Gita:

One should understand what is duty and what is not duty by the regulations of the scriptures. Knowing such rules and regulations, one should act so that he may gradually be elevated.

The ascent Chinmayananda expected of His students was one He had of the entire planet. He knew our collective salvations depended on an unshakeable conviction regarding its future. This He said began with daily study of the Sastras, the world’s spiritual canon under the guidance of a loving teacher.

Not just one Book or a few verses, all of them.

What is a Sastra?

The word Sastra means “vault”, “weapon” or “arsenal”. I refer to the Sastras interchangeably as a Spiritual Weapons Cabinet and as the World’s Spiritual Library.

We study the Sastras in order to gain access to the wisdom of the world’s spiritual problem solvers. None of us is so proficient in the management of our affairs or those of humanity that we can afford to leave one word of advice by the wayside.

Still, one can’t casually read the Bible, the Book of Mormon, or the Qu’ran without proper preparation and expect to change the world. The world’s greatest source of manmade suffering stems from the mishandling of religious books. In the hands of the uninitiated, the reckless, superstitious, and the crafty, religious verses have been the root cause of the deaths of nearly a billion souls, the dismemberment and morbidity of many times this figure.

Human beings abhor being the victims or the cause of senseless death and destruction but we willingly give into it when a Book is involved. It is this careless, monotonous and utterly heartless approach to the Sastras that has invoked the Evil Spirit from their pages and given him free reign over the destiny of this planet. Their purposes are instead the opposite, to reveal how we can be Hosts to a Bright Spirit, one whose Goodness and Grace are manifold and the delight of all that lives.

Your choice of Teacher determines whether you will use the Sastras to become an instrument of Wrath and undertake the work of the Unholy Spirit, or one of Beatitude and become a Messenger of God. It is the Teacher’s Voice that will narrate the meaning of the Scriptures to you long after you and He or She part company. If your Spiritual Narrator was a demoniac, a hater and corrupter of man, you are damned and all of humanity is with you if you don’t figure it out.

If yours, like mine, merged himself with the Supreme Soul in order to give hope to a despairing world, you have will have a chance to experience a remarkable transformation and human history alongside you.

Like all other arts and sciences, the study of the Sastras requires critical thinking skills, a proficient teacher and a methodological approach. Chinmayananda likened it to a scientific experiment that consisted of a hypothesis, gathering of evidence, and a conclusion that without a doubt proved the theory of the text or failed it.

This need for clear proof always leads to the Direct Experience of the Grace of God and far from the Wrath of the Evil Spirit or the follies of mankind.

The Sastras are not “Comparative Religion”.

Comparative religion exists to explain to sheltered persons their narrow point of view is not the only one. Study of the Sastras is not comparative but additive. As Chinmayananda said, “In order to understand the Mysteries of the Spirit, one must have firsthand experience of Him ourselves.”

For this, we need intimacy with scriptures written by others who have accomplished this before us. We need to know the circumstances that compelled their Authors to transcribe them, the problems they asked God to help them solve, the rules they wanted to break, the new ones they needed to establish, and feel their utter hatred of the liars, hypocrites, and idiots they were sent to throw down.

In addition to serving as an ancestral record of human accomplishment in the Spiritual Sciences, by studying their various perspectives and attempting to align with their Single Pointed Objective, we save time, because there isn’t much left gain an opportunity to prevent the repeated tragic and avoidable instances of suffering that confound humanity, and we renew our inborn desire to nurture the health and wealth of the planet earth.

They were not written nor designed to make what is random more predictable, to extend life beyond its limits, nor erase our mistakes. They help us make peace with we’ve left behind through Right Contact with the circumstances of the present.

The Qu’ran says:

“There has certainly come to you a Messenger from among yourselves. Grievous to him is what you suffer, he is concerned over you and the counsel that you provide to people regarding what is kind and merciful.” (Quran: 9:128)

The Sastras do more than state a list of beliefs or commandments about such things. They instruct in their importance to the health and wealth of Civil Society and the establishment of their sentiments through Rule of Law.

We know that a broad, sweeping, and generous portfolio of Civil Rights are good for societies and their individual stakeholders and that this is reminiscent of the Prime Commandments of the Scriptures. We also have made them inalienable from daily life via legislation and its enforcement.

The Law is itself, the Sastras are its Spirit.

In addition to the ethic behind the law and providing the foundation for long-term existence and prosperity of humanity on the earth, the Sastras continually polish and tune the individual soul so that it can be successful at what this requires of it. Milestones of this process include:

*The creation of free and free thinking societies and communities.

*Development of a technique and practice for shedding bias, shame, self-hate, self-loathing, and the narrow negative thinking and tyranny of others and attain worthiness of the Grace of God.

*Reinforcement of the importance of selfless service to society, and the duty of society to serve citizens.

*The creation of personality that greets all of life’s situations with equanimity and great beauty.

*An open-ended curiosity about the nature of existence and its mysteries.

Texts without these subject matter, that obscure or discourage their practices are not included in the Sastras. ex. Texts that:

*promote misogyny or homophobia.

*suggest a wrathful being presides over creation; that it sides with one aspect of society and not another and gives “believers” political, social, or economic advantages over others.

*texts that ritualize harm to other living things as a mean to connection with the divine.

*any text that violates the civic, municipal, federal law or international laws.

*scriptures that suggest genocide, mutilation, ostracization, any type of corporal punishment.

When in doubt whether a scripture is also a Sastra, we test it against the Stainless Principal, also called the Prime Commandment: “Thou shalt strive for the well-being and success of all living things with great resolve. He who performs in life according to the tenets of the Prime Commandment incurs no sin.”

The Law of Absolution: Sin is not absolute, Absolution is.

Absolution is the release of the emotional burden of sin, and is achieved through inquiry into the coincidence of the direct experiences of life’s various conditions and the Grace of God.

“Through the increasing frequency of mistakes, ego centric work increases, and when work driven by mistaken assumptions increases so do the mistakes. Thus, the mistakes and their efforts never cease.”

Prior to engaging in Upanishad on the Sastras, a commitment to transcending the mistaken opinions, ideas, all notions of the past must be made. Suspicion, superstition, Fear of God, comfort with ritual, all of these veil Reality, and impede human accomplishment and magnify delusion.

When one pretends what is real is not, and what is false is real, we cheat ourselves and others of life’s most significant experience: The Grace of God.

God’s Grace, which is embodied in all persons and Civil Societies, never steers us wrong, shames, harms, misleads or misdirects us. This is why the Old Law Books in the Bible and Torah will never be considered Upanishads. They reveal none of the cues that reveal the Presence of a Gracious God.

The Gospels, Qu’ran and Book of Mormon, however are Upanishads.

I quote the first and last statements of the Book of Mormon, which state the intentions of the Prophet Joseph Smith to reveal the Truth of the Grace of God:

1 Nephi 1:1:

I, Nephi, having been born of goodly parents, therefore I was taught somewhat in all the learning of my father; and having seen many afflictions in the course of my days, nevertheless, having been highly favored of the Lord in all my days; yea, having had a great knowledge of the goodness and the mysteries of God, therefore I make a record of my proceedings in my days.

The last verse is Moroni 10:34:

And now I bid unto all, farewell. I soon go to rest in the paradise of God, until my spirit and body shall again reunite, and I am brought forth triumphant through the air, to meet you before the pleasing bar of the great Jehovah, the Eternal Judge of both quick and dead. Amen.

Having discovered the Mysteries of God, the Soul finds Union with Him.

The Prophet Muhammad employed Allah for guidance in how to attain His Grace in a manner not altogether different from the Prophet Nephi:

Surah Al Fatihah (the Opening):

In the name of Allah, the Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful.

[All] praise is [due] to Allah, Lord of the worlds –

The Entirely Merciful, the Especially Merciful,

Sovereign of the Day of Recompense.

It is You we worship and You we ask for help.

Guide us to the straight path –

The path of those upon whom You have bestowed favor, not of those who have evoked [Your] anger or of those who are astray.

Like Nephi, Muhammad was gravely concerned about a wicked, aimless, and violent culture.

Unlike Nephi, however, Muhammad did not believe humanity had the appetite for peace, beauty and Grace that it needed to be successful.

The Qu’ran ends on a pessimistic if not dour note:

Surah An Nas (Humankind):

Say, “I seek refuge in the Lord of mankind,

The Sovereign of mankind.

The God of mankind,

From the evil of the retreating whisperer –

Who whispers [evil] into the breasts of mankind –

From among the jinn and mankind.”

The Greatest Man Who Ever Lived, Muhammad, Allah’s Prophet saw humanity selling its soul to the devil without a second thought.

Still we retained his Book, and so many study it and the Book of Mormon and the other Sastras every day.

Are they working? Nope. Or the Sastras correct and we are wrong?

Humanity has less than ten years left to figure out which it is, to ask itself what the fuck happened and why we are causing the demise of the only life-bearing planet in the cosmos and whether or not it’s worthwhile to try to do anything about it.

Can the Sastras help us or have they been ineffective at guiding us?

Can we study them yet again and figure out what to do to make them functional and positive parts of our lives?

If we employ the technique of Upanishad, the answer is almost certainly yes.

The Ten Hypotheses of the Vajra Veda.

The Principle of Total Salvation or Sarvamukti. “We must strive for the end of suffering and grow the causes of happiness for all living things with fearlessness and great resolve. This Dedication of Merit fulfills the Gospels, the Sutras, the Sastras etc. and engenders the trust we must have in one another in order to live well with one another long-term.”
There is One God who has created the universe. He is available to all of us as a Holy Spirit.
God’s Grace is Preeminent. It is the Root Cause of all human happiness, progress, and prosperity.
All life forms are born Fit Vessels of the Spirit and its Graces.
A legislated God is a false one. Rule of Law is used by man to create civilized life, which refrains from infringing upon God’s Word as the basis for its existence.
The universe is ever new and functions on its own agenda. Embodied souls are the same.
Even still, it is the Goal of Students of the Sastras to Realize Satchitananda, the Direct Experience of One Reality.
Jivamukti, the freedom from delusion proceeds from This. True Happiness is said to be derived from freedom from the illusion of happiness or delusions about its causes.
There will be Peace on Earth when each of us values the happiness of our neighbor as much as we value our own. (this is called personal salvation or Jivamukti).
The Indifference towards the Spirit is the cause of all suffering. When humanity resorts Sound Reasoning, the Counsel of the Spirit instead there is the promise of great progress instead of great remorse.

The Law of Absolution: Sin is not absolute, Absolution is.

Upanishad Al-Sa’aeiqat min Ar-Rahma

The Thunderbolt of Mercy

An eloquent discussion of the 100 names of Allah.

Invocation:

Ayatul Kursi

God – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep. To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission? He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

What is the Holy Qu’ran, and why do we study the Asmaul Husna?

Qu’ran means “A Recitation.” Muhammad, deeply concerned about the state of affairs in the Arab Peninsula took refuge in a cave and asked Allah for Clear and Precise guidance on how to resolve centuries of vendetta, sectarian violence, class warfare, and an entrenched system of government that left quite a lot to be desired.

Christianity had established itself outside of Rome and trouble followed it everywhere it went. relations between Arabs and Jews were seldom friendly or lasting.

In the Qu’ran Allah explained the behind their causes and the many ways human beings infract upon one another and fall from godliness, the context in which these things happen and how to rapidly, sensibly and effectively restore peace and order.

All of these issues and questions resolve through what is called a Seat. Where a soul Sits determines its ability to reason, engage meaningfully with the Divine, and achieve what Muhammad called “Instrumentation”, or sainthood.

The student of the Qu’ran learns all of this through conscientious observation of how Allah Instrumentalizes Creation so that its resources and energies benefit all living things. The Qu’ran serves no other purpose.

So, first we get to know Allah and that requires Dua, an arabic word that means “to contemplate” on the Asmaul Husna, the 99 Names of Allah. It is promised that any man or woman who knows the Asmaul Husna knows the Qu’ran and through the Qu’ran achieves Unity With Allah and joins Him on His Seat.

Who is the Prophet?

Muhammad of Clan Quraysh, Allah’s Prophet, was born in 570 AD in Mecca. He received the Qu’ran from the Archangel Jibril in the year 610.

Muhammad was always known as an erudite scholar, brilliant strategist, and skilled warrior. There was a saying in the region, “Ask Muhammad, he will know.”

When war and scandal tore the Arabian Peninsula apart, Muhammad went on the run from his enemies and retreated into a cave to meditate. Legend states that Allah sent a tarantula to weave a web across the entrance to the cave so that Muhammad’s enemies would pass it by and give the Prophet safety in which to receive the Qu’ran.

Muhammad emerged and took the first few Surahs back to Mecca. Everyone hated it. Muhammad attempted to explain the importance of One Merciful God Whom all men could trust and place their faith in, but the Arab Peninsula was populated by Jews and pagans and they refused to listen to him.

Again Muhammad went on the run this time to Medina, a journey called the Hejira. This was in 622. Muhammad added to the Qu’ran in Medina.

In 628, war broke out between Muhammad’s clansmen and pagans yet again, they sent word of reconciliation to Medina and asked for his help. Muhammad responded and took 2,000 men and 60 camels, a force so impressive his friends and his enemies submitted to Muhammad.

A treaty was signed and the 60 camels were sacrificed to Allah on the great stone table called the Kaaba, which was formerly used for sacrifices to pagan gods. The Kaaba or cube is now the central artifact in the Grand Mosque of Mecca. Circumambulation of the Kaaba 7 times during Hajj is considered a sacrament all Muslims should attempt.

It is clear Muhammad did not consider the Qu’ran to be a success. He left this world utterly skeptical mankind would ever grow up.

Fortunately, we have a chance, for a time at least, to prove him wrong.

Who is Allah?

Allah means “Bright Spirit”. In Hebrew He is called Eloy, in Sanskrit He is called Iswara, in Persian, Ohrmuzd. Surah Ar-Rahman and our First Name goes into great detail about Allah.

What is Kursi?

Kursi means “Throne”.

Kursi is the Seamless Connection between Allah’s Subtle Self and all extant phenomena. Before we are born we are Kursi. When we are in the womb, we are costumed in Kursi. When we enter the world, we interact with Kursi. All things born and unborn, that live and make life possible are Kursi.

What is Rizq?

This is a without a direct parallel in English or western religious traditions. Rizq is the Total Bounty of Creation placed at our disposal for equitable and honest disposal.

How we appreciate it, work with it, and channel it to each other determines the quotient of Rizq available to our current human civilization.

Rizq is supposed to flow from more to less, but humanity has yet to properly acquaint itself with this fact. In order to overcome its reluctance to steward our collective bounty, the Qu’ran established zakah, or charity as a pillar of the Muslim faith.

The Asmaul Husna discuss charity at length.

The Five Seats.

The Five seats were created to gauge levels of Instrumentation. Allah has no desire to “bucket us” or sort us out. The Seats are tools used to determine what motivates humanity to perform from the most vile whims of the diabolic to the selflessness of the saint.

It is fascinating and bittersweet to observe where humanity is concentrated, however. By interpolating how our civilization is distributed across these five categories, we can draw conclusions about what causing the state of affairs in the world to unfold as they are.

The Five Seats tell us how capable humanity is of being cruel and violent, dull and careless, and how one man with an Incandescent Heart can change the world. Imagine a world with two, three, a thousand, a hundred hundred thousand such men, women, and children?

The Five Seats are:

Glowing Hearts.
Hearts Ajar.
Hearts Shut.
Hearts of Darkness.

The First Seat, al maqead al’awwal. Incandescent Hearts.

The Foremost, قبل كل شيء, qabl kl shay’ – selfless and pure, Those of Incandescent Hearts– من القلوب المتوهجة, min alqulub almutawahhija, are persons who regardless of how life has treated them, or what they have owned or accomplished, contend with its circumstances with “great beauty”.

They are the most exalted but require no recognition for the results of their efforts and instead praise Allah continuously. They possess virtuous minds, have no unresolved passions, nor do they engage in dull activities or thoughts.

They look upon the world, its rising and ebbing tides with all the ships afloat on it and all the creatures contained in it with the same vision as Allah. They are not themselves anymore, their hearts are His heart.

The First seat stand next to Allah and gaze upon the world resigned to exalt Allah in everything they think and do.

The First are not known to us, but we live by their graces. Those Seated First do not seek recognition nor is reward their aim.

The Incandescent Heart is a lantern that combats the encroaching darkness Muhammad feared would envelope this world.

The Second Seat, almaqead althani. Hearts Ajar.

The Second Seat are those who keep one eye on Allah, one on the petty and small affairs of the world.

Those That Stand At the Left, or Those With Hearts Ajar- تلك مع قلوب عجار – tilk mae qulub eijar, also “Those of the waning flame” – تلك التي من الشعلة المدمرة- tilk alty min alshshaelat almudammira. This station consists of those that are egocentric but still stoke some passion for greater unity with Allah.

Those with waning flames praise Allah in hopes of fanning the flames of passion for their religion in their hearts, but they are also distracted, involved in ways of thinking and acting that more or less contribute to their own aggrandizement rather than Allah’s instead.

Those Seated Next tend to have all the comforts one could want, but still, something is always ill at ease inside them and it is this they worry about the most.

The Third Seat, almaqead alththalith, Hearts Locked Shut.

The Right- Those with Locked Hearts- تلك مع قلوب مغلقة- tilk mae qulub mughlaqa- These are souls that have through misfortune of lacking eloquence of mind have turned their gaze away from Allah. They do not see Him longing to meet their gaze because all He can see are their backs.

They worship the three idols of me, myself, and I. They are little use as Instruments and have no desire to try.

The Fourth Seat, almaqead alrrabie, Hearts Gone Dark

The Fourth Seat is empty at the Table. ليس على الطاولة, llays ealaa alttawila.

Those who “unseated” pursue religious lives- if they do at all- for secular ends and have no regreat over the harm they do to others, the planet, or themselves through their imminently dull states of mind.

They believe prosperity flows from less to more, not the proper way. They have little regard for the plights of others who do not have a chance to eat, take care of their families, live in houses, have plumbing and heat, good food, or that their selfish activities may kill us all.

They are passive murderers of the earth and its inhabitants. They abhor the Word of God except when it flows from their own pen.

The Fifth Seat, almaqead alkhamisu, HEARTLESS.

The Fifth Seat are only man shaped. As animals, they hide under the table, that alttawila, تحت الطاولة.

Those man shaped, animal hearted men use their teeth and claws to hunt and subdue the helpless. Corrupt politicians, tyrants, murderers, thieves, rapists, criminals of all sort.

Those Seated Fifth are the very same that seek the Djinn instead of the Refuge of Allah, and are the fiends Muhammad warned us about in Surah An-Nas.

As you study the Asmaul Husna, try to see how the Verses apply to the conditions and problems associated with the Seats.

The Pillars

Muslims observe Nine Articles of Faith called Pillars. They are:

Shahadah– to bear Testimony: “There is One God Whose Name is Allah and Muhammad is His Prophet”
Iiman, Belief in the Qu’ran as the One Source of Truth for all Human Beings that Seek Sound Reason and a Clear Path.
Zakah– Charity
Salat- Prayer
Hajj– the Pilgrimage to Mecca and the circumambulation of the Kaaba
Sawm– Fasting During Ramadan
Dua – Contemplation of the Truth through study of the Qu’ran
Sadaqah– a commitment to live according to the Truths of the Qu’ran
Masjid– a commitment to the welfare of all life on the planet earth

The Upanishad on the Names of Allah

All good Upanishads end with their beginnings, begin with their endings. May Allah, As-Sabur guide us as we explore His Names backwards and forwards.

As-Sabur The Timeless, The Patient

O you who have believed, seek help through patience and prayer. Indeed, Allah is with the patient.

O you who have believed, persevere and endure and remain stationed and fear Allah that you may be successful.

Except for those who have believed and done righteous deeds and advised each other to truth and advised each other to patience.

Through Nur, the Light of Allah’s Wisdom, the Prophet Muhammad was given the Verses of the Holy Qu’ran. The 100 Names of Allah were excerpted from the Qu’ran to prepare serious students of its teachings for deeper study of the Qu’ran itself.

Each Identity is a Messenger of its own and brings us closer to what is called “Instrumentation” or full availability to the Will of Allah.

In these Verses which were assigned to the 99^th name we are tasked with perseverance, patience and faith in Allah we will be successful at performing deeds of righteousness in the Name of Truth.

There are no requirements or training needed to study and benefit from the Asmaul Husna. I recommend pursuing one name a day until all 100 are finished.

The First Name of Allah is Ar-Rahman, the Exceedingly Merciful:

Number 1. Ar-Raḥmaān, The Exceedingly Merciful

In the name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful.

55:1 The Beneficent

55:2 Taught the Quran.

55:3 He created man,

55:4 Taught him expression.

55:5 The sun and the moon follow a reckoning,

55:6 And the herbs and the trees adore (Him).

55:7 And the heaven, He raised it high, and He set up the measure,

55:8 That you may not exceed the measure,

55:9 And keep up the balance with equity, nor fall short in the measure.

55:10 And the earth, He has set it for (His) creatures;

55:11 Therein is fruit and palms having sheathéd clusters,

55:12 And the grain with (its) husk and fragrance.

55:13 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:14 He created man from dry clay like earthen vessels,

55:15 And He created the jinn of a flame of fire.

55:16 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:17 Lord of the two Easts, and Lord of the two Wests.

55:18 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:19 He has made the two seas to flow freely — they meet:

55:20 Between them is a barrier which they cannot pass.

55:21 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:22 There come forth from them both, pearls large and small.

55:23 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:24 And His are the ships reared aloft in the sea like mountains.

55:25 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:26 Everyone on it passes away —

55:27 And there endures forever the person of thy Lord, the Lord of glory and honour.

55:28 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:29 All those in the heavens and the earth ask of Him. Every moment He is in a state (of glory).

55:30 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:31 Soon shall We apply Ourselves to you, O you two armies.

55:32 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:33 O assembly of jinn and men, if you are able to pass through the regions of the heavens and the earth, then pass through. You cannot pass through but with authority.

55:34 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:35 The flames of fire and sparks of brass will be sent upon you, then you will not be able to defend yourselves.

55:36 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:37 So when the heaven is rent asunder, so it becomes red like red hide.

55:38 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:39 So on that day neither man nor jinni will be asked about his sin.

55:40 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:41 The guilty will be known by their marks, so they shall be seized by the forelocks and the feet.

55:42 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:43 This is the hell which the guilty deny.

55:44 Round about shall they go between it and hot, boiling water.

55:45 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:46 And for him who fears to stand before his Lord are two Gardens.

55:47 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:48 Full of varieties.

55:49 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:50 Therein are two fountains flowing.

55:51 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:52 Therein are pairs of every fruit.

55:53 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:54 Reclining on beds, whose inner coverings are of silk brocade. And the fruits of the two Gardens are within reach.

55:55 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:56 Therein are those restraining their glances, whom no man nor jinni has touched before them.

55:57 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:58 As though they were rubies and pearls.

55:59 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:60 Is the reward of goodness aught but goodness?

55:61 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:62 And besides those are two (other) Gardens.

55:63 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:64 Inclining to blackness.

55:65 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:66 Therein are two springs gushing forth.

55:67 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:68 Therein are fruits and palms and pomegranates.

55:69 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:70 Therein are goodly beautiful ones.

55:71 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:72 Pure ones confined to pavilions.

55:73 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:74 Before them man has not touched them, nor jinni.

55:75 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:76 Reclining on green cushions and beautiful carpets.

55:77 Which then of the bounties of your Lord will you deny?

55:78 Blessed be the name of thy Lord, the Lord of Glory and Honour!

The verses of Surah 55 detail the creation and the qualities of its topography, biology, and beauty. It emphasizes man’s intellectual precision and ability to observe and reflect upon the Presence of Allah all around him.

As we move forward with Dua on the Asmaul Husna, refrain from making a to-do or a do not list and allow your mind to register the meaning of the Verses in an unbiased manner.

This is how Allah speaks to all men at all times; He is not biased, He has no agenda, plays no tricks. Union with Allah is much more than “what you see is what you get” its Knowing what you see is None Other Than Ar-Rahman.

Number 2: Ar-Raheem, The Most Compassionate

Interpretation of the Qu’ran depends on the pronunciation of Allah’s Names and Their context.

Ar Rahman refers to the mercy of Allah, Ar Rahim refers to its observable effects.

“Do they not see the birds above them, spreading out their wings and folding them in? None upholds them except AR-RAHMAAN (Allah). Verily, He is the All-Seer of everything.” [Mulk:19]
Also, Abu `Ali Al-Farisi said, “Ar-Rahman is a name that encompasses every type of mercy that Allah has. Ar-Rahim is what effects the believers, And He (ALLAH) is ever RAHEEM (merciful) to the believers.”

It is not difficult to believe in God. What is thought to be difficult is how to find, know, and understand Him. Number 2 of the Asmaul Husna explains this, and makes it so easy for everyone to find God.

Number 3: Al-Malik “The King”

Al-Hasr 59:23

He is Allah, other than whom there is no deity, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Perfection, the Bestower of Faith, the Overseer, the Exalted in Might, the Compeller, the Superior. Exalted is Allah above whatever they associate with Him.

Taha 20:114

So high [above all] is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth. And, [O Muhammad], do not hasten with [recitation of] the Qur’an before its revelation is completed to you, and say, “My Lord, increase me in knowledge.”

Al-Mu’Minun 23:116

So exalted is Allah, the Sovereign, the Truth; there is no deity except Him, Lord of the Noble Throne.

Muhammad acknowledged that people worshiped other aspects of Allah. He called Allah the Sovereign because only a King who is served by and serves His people can bring prosperity to the land.

Such a King exacts what is right and proper from the people and the returns all the bounty of the Kingdom in return.

This is the promise Allah, the Sovereign King has made in the Qu’ran.

All other gods and Gods who are cruel, ruthless, and enforce their will without affection or generosity are usurpers, pretenders to Allah’s Title and are to be shunned.

Number 4: Al Quddus, the Holy

Al-Jumu’ah 62:1:

Whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth is exalting Allah, the Sovereign, the Pure, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

Hisnuislam, chapter 15: 27:

‘O Allah, distance me from my sins just as You have distanced The East from The West, O Allah, purify me of my sins as a white robe is purified of filth, O Allah, cleanse me of my sins with snow, water, and ice.’

What is Pure has one quality, began with that quality and never demonstrates any other. Allah is the Most Beneficent and from this Quality He never wavers.

Allah is called “Mighty” because there is nothing He cannot do, Wise because all that can be known was undertstood first by Him.

Allah is known as Al Quddus, “the Holiest” because He withholds His Anger using His Great Strength and provides counsel to the wise that they might restore their souls to their original pristine state.

he Qu’ran creates a Holy Place wherever and whenever its instruction is applied. Because this promise was made on Allah’s Behalf by Muhammad we know it was intended to be a blessing to all who study the Qu’ran and those who live and work around them.

Number 5: As Salam, “The Peace.”

“He is Allah, besides Whom there is no god; the King, the Holy, the Giver of peace, the Granter of security, Guardian over all, the Mighty, the Supreme, the Possessor of every greatness Glory be to Allah from what they set up (with Him).” (Al-Hashr, 59:23).

The context of this Name of Allah is key. In Al Hashr, Muhammad attempted to curb his Muslim colleagues from waging war against a village of Jews that lived nearby. Prior to the Hijra most of the Arabian Peninsula was populated by pagans and Jews. Conflict between them was almost endless.

When Muhammad gave the world the Qu’ran it taught many of these warring and barbaric factions how to live in peace – at least for a time. The idea of a God like Allah, whose Essential Nature called to the intelligent and reasonable hearts of men was revolutionary. Sometimes it even resulted in Great Success.

In Al Hashr, he failed and the Jews were slaughtered. Those that survived were given to the desert. It is my opinion Muhammad never forgave mankind for its lack of ability to Witness Allah’s Glory and instead debased itself to acts of horror such as this.

In Surah Al Fath, during another war council, Muhammad was able to appeal to the innate desire men have to understand and live godly lives using Allah’s Guidance and war was avoided.

During times of great strife between people and cultures, the Qu’ran asks us to consider the Sacrament of Salat, “to inquire of Allah” for guidance. Through Salat, Allah As Salaam, the Giver of Peace is able to guide us to Al Fath, “victory”.

Al-Muʾumin The Granter of Security

See Al-Hasr 59:23

As the Chief Executive of Creation, Allah is trustworthy, reliable, always watching. He is never unreliable or impulsive at any time.

We are the ones that disrupt order and cause others to question the future, not He.

When we turn to Allah, we learn how His Way is correct and how ours are flawed; also how to make right what was once wrong.

There is no repentance with Allah. You are doing what is correct and proper for the sake of the Illumination of the Grace of God or you are overshadowing it with self-aggrandizement. Security depends on the number of Luminaries and Shades operating in the world at any given moment.

It is always about stability, and temporary stability at at that. Muhammad, peace be upon upon him, knew mankind could not achieve a lasting peace and that is why he asked Allah to guide us through human nature. The result of his Salat is called the Holy Qu’ran.

When war, drought, famine, or bad news from afar come to undo the Word of God, we go back to it to find our way back to the Sound Path. He or she who consults with Allah through the Hadith or the Holy Qu’ran for this purpose never fails in their endeavors.

Al-Muhaymin, the Controller

See Al-Ma’idah 5:48

And We revealed to you the Book in [the] truth, confirming what (was) before it of the Book and a guardian over it. So judge between them by what Allah has revealed and (do) not follow their vain desires when has come to you of the truth. For each We have made for you a law and a clear way. And if Allah (had) willed He (would have) made you one community [and] but to test you in what He (has) given you, so race (to) the good. To Allah you will all return, then He will inform you of what you were concerning it differing.

This text from the Quran has incredible significance for the fate of humanity and life on earth. We are “one community” that functions in diverse ways.

Vanity and greed challenge the law and create strife between individuals. The Qu’ran written to restore the vibrance and harmony between diverse points of view and stitch them together into one Dar al Islam, and the the Holy Qu’ran is the needle for the thread. Allah guides it as it weaves each of us together.

This verse, from the Table Setting is a later Chapter of the Qu’ran but is considered quintessential in the ordering of Civil Society so it appears out of chronological order.

In addition to instructing in how food can be raised, prepared and served, it explains the most important aspect of gathering around a table: brotherhood and unity.

All Imams and Mullahs who are One With Allah instruct in the manner of Muhammad through Dua on the Qu’ran. ll Imams and Mullahs who are One With Allah instruct in this in the manner of Muhammad through Dua on the Qu’ran.

Imam Muhammad al Bariq.

Al Aziz, The Powerful , also means the Swift, and the All Mighty, the All Prevailing, the Unconquerable.

See Ali-Imran 3:6

It is He who forms you in the wombs however He wills. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

An-Nisa 4: 158

Rather, Allah raised him to Himself. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

At-Tawbah 9:40

If you do not aid the Prophet – Allah has already aided him when those who disbelieved had driven him out [of Makkah] as one of two, when they were in the cave and he said to his companion, “Do not grieve; indeed Allah is with us.” And Allah sent down his tranquillity upon him and supported him with angels you did not see and made the word of those who disbelieved the lowest, while the word of Allah – that is the highest. And Allah is Exalted in Might and Wise.

Al-Fath 48: 7

And to Allah belong the soldiers of the heavens and the earth. And ever is Allah Exalted in Might and Wise.

Al-Hashr 59:23

While there is no doubt there is One Self, One Supreme Soul, One Truth, we cannot ever say it is the one that emerges from hysteria or ignorance, patriotism, tradition, culture, politics, or any other tainted point of view.

God presents Himself through the Self, and all of the works He causes in the phenomenal and transcendental worlds. We, ignorant men, however, do not have the ability to push our small, ignorant, opinionated minds upward and affect the nature and person of the All Mighty.

He was always, is now, and will be eternally pure and free from our sinful tendencies.

That being said Allah, the Aziz, is the one True God, free of tarnish. full of Mercy and Grace. There can be no other, we can have no other.

Differences of opinions or perspectives on this are the causes of Great Strife and Great Tragedy.

The way Al Aziz is pronounced can have different connotations:

Ya’izzu: the swift one

Ya’uzzu: the dominant and unconquerable

The significant note from this source on Al Aziz is the fact that nothing can prevent Allah from fulfilling His will. Over and over the Holy Quran tells us what to look for: Goodness and Mercy in all directions, throughout all the times and the realms.

In a creation molded from Mercy, there can be no sin, no divisions between men and women, God and mankind. All of us together belong inside this All Powerful Sphere that is the Swift, Indomitable, All Mighty and Merciful Allah, and no force may separate us from Him.

We rely on our religious lawgivers and secular teachers and governors to help us remove the ignorance we have about this, not re-forge flawed relationships that have caused us to fall short of the Glory of Allah Al Aziz.

-Note in Al Hashr, the Exile, that Muhamad says Allah’s Domain and Energies are dedicated to sustained Tranquility. He has set the Host and all believers in charge of accomplishing this no matter the conditions they must confront.

The rest…those that defy Alllah and His mujihadeen in their efforts are worse than scorpions and demons, less than maggots.

Imam Muhammad al Bariq.

Al Jabbar, The Compeller

The root of this name of the Divine Allah is jabr, which means

to compel or force,
A date palm that bears much fruit
To fix something that is broken, to heal

Allah has supreme authority over His creation, and His will alone is executed. Just look at what that means.

He is the tallest tree that bears the most fruit and these He shares gladly, lovingly, and willingly with all. This He planted on His Oasis Planet where He placed us so that we could prosper and be well.

He gave us His Messenger and this Asmaul Husna so that when we were troubled, perplexed or our communities broken, we would have a way to restore peace and unity.

The word jabr can also mean as in the nature of a tyrant, but Maryam 19:32 says:

…And [made me] dutiful to my mother, and He has not made me a wretched tyrant.

Though Allah has supreme power, He is not a tyrant over us. He compels us to act as men of peace and duty, to go into the world and mend what needs fixing, bring peace where there is war, bring relief to the suffering.

This compulsion for righteousness has been instilled in the hearts of all beings, and in return for fulfillment of its duties, Allah grants us the Graces of Civil Society.

Denial of its importance brings about the End of Times.

Al Mutakabbir – the Greatest, The Supreme, the Majestic

See Al-Hashr 59:23

How can something other than me be so great, and powerful, and have authority over me which I must obey?

Al-Hashr 59:23

We don’t throw ourselves on the ground and say Ye Allah! Just because we are told to obey. There are many ways to show obeisance, all are fully explained in the Holy Qu’ran through the Asmaul Husna:

We obey because we observe a chain of command. This kind of obedience is enforced by rule of law and tradition, seniority or is earned.
Obedience is done out of obligation. If someone does a kind thing for you, you owe them your trust and service.
You obey when someone is stronger and wiser than you.
You obey out of love, because the other has been generous and affectionate towards you and has your best, long-term interests at heart for you.
Likewise, we do not obey a tyrant, a fool, someone who is up to no good, is poorly informed, or unwell.

What does it mean then to obey or disobey Allah? Allah requires no obedience. He has given us Sound Judgement, Clever Minds and great beauty to appreciate with them. For this we call Him the Greatest of Names, the Supreme.

Once the Qu’ran is mastered and all of one’s instincts for Civility, Generosity, Charity, Insight, Reason, Medicine, Science, Biology, Ecology, Anthropology are satisfied, there is no need for “obedience” only service as one’s role and requirements deem appropriate.

Al Khaliq- The Creator
Allah as Creator.

See Al-Anam 6:102

That is Allah, your Lord; there is no deity except Him, the Creator of all things, so worship Him. And He is Disposer of all things.

Ar-Rad 13:16

Say, “Who is Lord of the heavens and earth?” Say, ” Allah .” Say, “Have you then taken besides Him allies not possessing [even] for themselves any benefit or any harm?” Say, “Is the blind equivalent to the seeing? Or is darkness equivalent to light? Or have they attributed to Allah partners who created like His creation so that the creation [of each] seemed similar to them?” Say, ” Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is the One, the Prevailing.”

Ya-Sin 36:81

Is not He who created the heavens and the earth Able to create the likes of them? Yes, [it is so]; and He is the Knowing Creator.

Az-Zumar 36:92

Allah is the Creator of all things, and He is, over all things, Disposer of affairs.

Ghafir 40:62

That is Allah, your Lord, Creator of all things; there is no deity except Him, so how are you deluded?

Al-Hasr 59:24

He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

Al Khaliq the Creator is a logical name for Allah but it says more than just the fact He makes things. Allah is the Exclusive Creator. There aren’t little elf Allahs producing makeshift toys and animals running around, creating flawed and shoddy things.

We know all that is made was made by Allah because of its excellence in design and performance. He is that Good. As the Qu’ran says “All Creation Exalts Allah, for He Was its Fashioner.”

Man as creator.

He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

In Al Hashr Muhammad was trying to convince a war council that Allah didn’t want his clansman to massacre a nearby Jewish settlement.

Muhammad’s arguments against vendetta, war, and the aftermath were powerful and passionate. Chief among them was the fact Allah governs the Creation without violence, punishment, more than enough food and water and land to go around, and a non-Christian Book, the Qu’ran to help resolve difficulties that were sure to arise over different opinions on that.

Muhammad’s clansmen and allies said, “Muhammad, that is simply the most beautiful story about Allah that you just told us. Peace be with you.” And then they killed the Jews anyway.

Muhammad was furious. In my opinion, Al Hashr is turning point in the Qu’ran for Muhammad and about our understanding of him. Muhammad wasn’t a wizard, didn’t talk to angels. He used his mind, artful negotiations skills, and wanted more than anything for the killing to stop.

God maybe could have stopped it. One man apparently could not.

After this portion of the Qu’ran we see the sublime and poetic verses about Allah and His Kursi become a little more lackluster, more formal as Muhammad realizes the world is probably really what it looks like: a place the Prophets counsel but really isn’t going to change.

Allah al Bari makes the Order of Creation, we make ours, exalted or not. And we all know the difference. We have all the options and appreciation of their outcomes, still we act like heartlessly.

Take a moment and breathe deeply in Allah’s Presence and know you are one of His Exalted Works, that the places you walk and sit and think, love, suffer, and wonder are exalted places. Allah made them this way for you.

Once this experience becomes a conviction, a Muslim gains great competency in Dua on the Qu’ran.

Al Bari- The Maker of Order

see Al-Hasr 59:24

He is Allah, the Creator, the Inventor, the Fashioner; to Him belong the best names. Whatever is in the heavens and earth is exalting Him. And He is the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

Again we visit Al Hashr, where Muhammad scolds Dar al Islam for its appetite for war.

How do war, public executions, genocides, misogyny, homophobia, sectarian violence, pollution, exalt Allah? Would Allah make lucrative deals with the enemies of Muslims? Would Allah rain fire down on innocents with the blessings of the Faithful? How does any aspect of life on earth reflect well on Allah?

Humanity has made Allah’s name a curse. We have given it over to the black magic of the Christians, Jews, Hindus…not one man, woman, or child exalts Allah in conduct, word, or purpose. All Salat is gone.

Still, the Wise study the Asmaul Husna and perform Dua on the Qu’ran to ensure the hope the Prophet Muhammad had for life on earth is not lost.

Number 13. Al Musawwir- The Maker of Beauty

See Al-Baqarah 2:29

It is He who created for you all of that which is on the earth. Then He directed Himself to the heaven, [His being above all creation], and made them seven heavens, and He is Knowing of all things.

Mathnawi I:2383

Everything that is made beautiful and fair and lovely is made for the eye of one with perfect beauty.

The earth is a beautiful place, and we should be enjoying existence upon it. Allah placed a great longing for the earth and all the plants, animals and company of other people upon it in our hearts so that we would glue ourselves to them and ensure their welfare.

When our gratitude and appreciation for them waver, all we have to do is consult the Qu’ran:

Allah instructed Muhammad to say, “Muhammad here is a Clear Book given to provide a Straight Path for Those Who Reason” so that what is called Rizq, the Total Bounty of Existence might be conserved for all living things.

The greatest experience of Rizq is a long life, free of trouble, scarcity, and worry. Achievement of This requires Full Understanding of Asmaul Husna 13.

Throughout the world men and women are reading the Qu’ran in many languages, employing Allah to give them the answers to the pressing issues they are facing.

These verses, for example tell us beauty is innocent and a blessing we were meant to appreciate. Your wife and your girlfriend will love hearing you say so too.

Number 14. Al Ghaffar- The Repeatedly Forgiving

See Taha 20:82 ,

But indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness then continues in guidance.

Az-Zumar 39:5

He created the heavens and earth in truth. He wraps the night over the day and wraps the day over the night and has subjected the sun and the moon, each running [its course] for a specified term. Unquestionably, He is the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver.

As-Sad, 38:66

Lord of the heavens and the earth and whatever is between them, the Exalted in Might, the Perpetual Forgiver.

The Ayah from Taha is the Foundation of Muslim Religious Practice. The Shahad substantiates Allah’s Sovereignty over His Creation and His Decision to choose Muhammad to speak on His Behalf through the Qu’ran.

The Fatihas (openings) and Khatimas (conclusions) delineate significant teachings. Taha 20:82 is one such Khatima. They establish, absolutely, the details of what the Qu’ran states about Allah and connects them to one another.

Contradictions and arguments with Fatihah train students of the Qu’ran how to think critically and competently about life on earth, train us to solve its problems and become more effective at creating peace and prosperity.

If we say“In the name of Allah the Most Merciful,” as our Fatihah, we know the verse “I will punish any who do not obey me with scalding hot water” is not a fit. We must then find a match such as “indeed, I am the Perpetual Forgiver of whoever repents and believes and does righteousness and then continues in guidance.”

It is also not enough to complete the exercise and move on. After we perform Dua, the objective is to emulate Allah’s Nature and Behavior. Islam is not about obedience of Allah and strict adherence to every word of the Qu’ran. It is the quest for unity between the human and heavenly ways of life.

When they become estranged, we employ the wisdom and method contained in the Asmaul Husna and the Upanishad Al Sa’aieqaat Min ar-Rahma in order to reunite them.

Number 15. Al Quahhar- the Subduer

See Al-Imran: 83

So is it other than the religion of Allah they desire, while to Him have submitted [all] those within the heavens and earth, willingly or by compulsion, and to Him they will be returned?

Yusuf 12:39

O [my] two companions of prison, are separate lords better or Allah, the One, the Prevailing?

Ibrahim 14:48

[It will be] on the Day the earth will be replaced by another earth, and the heavens [as well], and all creatures will come out before Allah, the One, the Prevailing.

As-Sad 38:56

Say, [O Muhammad], “I am only a warner, and there is not any deity except Allah, the One, the Prevailing.

Al-Ghafir 40:16

The Day they come forth nothing concerning them will be concealed from Allah . To whom belongs [all] sovereignty this Day? To Allah, the One, the Prevailing.

Allah’s Intentions are the root driver of creation. When He decides they have culminated or humanity has turned away from Him for too long, He will move on to another. One that exudes the Glory of His Kursi once again, one that possesses a Dar Islam that has faith.

Number 16. Al-Wahhab- The Giver of All

Ali Imran 3:16

Allah witnesses that there is no deity except Him, and [so do] the angels and those of knowledge – [that He is] maintaining [creation] in justice. There is no deity except Him, the Exalted in Might, the Wise.

As-Sad 38:9

Or do they have the depositories of the mercy of your Lord, the Exalted in Might, the Bestower?

38:35

He said, “My Lord, forgive me and grant me a kingdom such as will not belong to anyone after me. Indeed, You are the Bestower.”

The Qu’ran emphasizes none of us own anything. Everything we have was made by Allah and is owned wholly by Him. Even our bodies and lives are rented from Him. When they have fulfilled the terms of the Lease, everything must be returned to Him.

Number 17. Al-Razzaq- The Provider, The Sustainer

ee Ard Dhayat 51: 58

Indeed, it is Allah who is the [continual] Provider, the firm possessor of strength.

Hud 11:6:

“And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision [rizq], and He knows its place of dwelling and place of storage. All is in a clear register.”

Ard Dhayat 51: 22-23:

“And in the heaven is your provision and whatever you are promised. Then by the Lord of the heaven and earth, indeed, it is truth – just as [sure as] it is that you are speaking.”

In order to properly appreciate the beauty and significance of Al-Razzaq, one must grasp the concept of Rizq.

Rizq (provisions) is the lifeblood, energy, provisions, emotions, thoughts, the very soul that sustains and enlivens every living thing in the universe.

Al-Razzaq is He who provides Rizq to us all, to everything.

There are never any conditions placed upon the gifts and mercies of Allah, but our Spiritual Rizq grows as we foster generosity, kindness, and opportunity for everyone in our global human community.

Many question why Rizq is apparently plentiful in one person’s life and not in another’s or why whole communities receive prosperity and others are starving, homeless or desperate.

Allah pervades creation with His blessings, we pervade it with something else entirely- greed and cruelty. These two, Allah’s Rizq and our avarice cannot exist simultaneously.

The Quran warns us that when we overreach, overconsume, abuse each other, and permit corruption in our midst, Rizq, which should be plentiful, is lost.

How we increase Rizq in such situations? The Quran exhorts us to worship “Allah on an edge” (Q 22:11), this means when good times are scarce, and trying times are many, to be ingenious in our approach to life, and thus increase our “provisions.”

Sheikh Ratib an-Nabulsi lists a number of ways in which we can increase our provision. I have summarized them below:

Taqwa (God-conciosuness): “And whoever has taqwa of Allah – He will make for him a way out. And will provide for him from where he does not expect.” (Qur’an, 65:2-3)

Tawakul (reliance on God): “And whoever relies upon Allah – then He is sufficient for him. Indeed, Allah will accomplish His purpose. Allah has already set for everything a [decreed] extent.” (Qur’an, 65:3)

Keeping good relations with family: The Prophet ﷺ said, ‘Whoever would like his rizq (provision) to be increased and his life to be extended, should uphold the ties of kinship.’ (Bukhari)

Thankfulness: “And [remember] when your Lord proclaimed, ‘If you are grateful, I will surely increase you [in favor]; but if you deny, indeed, My punishment is severe.’ ” (Qur’an, 14:7)

Asking forgiveness and tawba (repentance): “And said, ‘Ask forgiveness of your Lord. Indeed, He is ever a Perpetual Forgiver. He will send [rain from] the sky upon you in [continuing] showers. And give you increase in wealth and children and provide for you gardens and provide for you rivers.” (Qur’an, 71:10-12)

Charity: “Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over?” (Qur’an, 2:245)

Reciting Qur’an: The Prophet ﷺ said: “The house in which Qur’an is recited is increased in good, and the house in which Qur’an is not recited is decreased in good.” (al-Bazzar)

Migrating for the sake of Allah: “And whoever emigrates for the cause of Allah will find on the earth many [alternative] locations and abundance.” (Qur’an, 4:100)

May we always find the energy and enthusiasm for these aspects of Dua for the sake of others, and may they do the same for us. This is the essence of the Sacrament of Dua and also of the Sacrament of Zakah, which together with the Other Sacraments ensure the integrity of Masjid.

Number 18, Al Fattah- the Opener

See Fatir: 2.

“Whatever mercy Allah opens for mankind, then none can be holding it back; and whatever He holds back, then none can be sending it forth after Him; And He is The Ever-Mighty, The Ever-Wise.”

When has God shown favoritism of this religion, race, creed, politic, skin color, gender, or sexuality over any other? Never.

When has He responded to the dilemmas facing humanity with bombs, soldiers, or neglect? Not once.

These are inflicted by mankind upon mankind.

Muhammad said it is a grave sin for man to presume he is like Allah, cause what Allah has left uncaused, to undo what Allah has made.

Number 19. Al- Alim- The Knower of All

see An Nahl: 19:

And Allah knows what you conceal and what you declare.

We have a responsibility to be honest with ourselves about who we are and what motivates us. It is not enough to seek the Refuge of Allah when your heart and mind are filled with schemes. This is a privilege that comes with an acute sense of responsibility regarding the upkeep of self and society.

Number 20. Al- Qabid- the Restrainer, the Straightener

see Al-Baqarah 2: 245

And there is no creature on earth but that upon Allah is its provision [rizq], and He knows its place of dwelling and place of storage. All is in a clear register.

253-255:

And [recall] when We gave Moses the Scripture and criterion that perhaps you would be guided.

And [recall] when Moses said to his people, “O my people, indeed you have wronged yourselves by your taking of the calf [for worship]. So repent to your Creator and kill yourselves. That is best for [all of] you in the sight of your Creator.” Then He accepted your repentance; indeed, He is the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.

And [recall] when you said, “O Moses, we will never believe you until we see Allah outright”; so the thunderbolt took you while you were looking on.

The scriptures teem with questions as to whether or not there should be a leash on us and whether it should be short, long, or if it has been cut altogether and the dogs are running wild and civilization is at an end.

We are never on such a leash. We never have been. We like to think that we are, and that Allah is some pet sitter, allowing us to run about, do our business, and reels us in so we can be housed and fed.

When we get into fights, wars, silly arguments, waste time and valuable resources we like to say Allah told us like the Master to the pet, and then we say “Great is Allah!”

This not Allah’s way, it is ours and only we can restrain it. Only we can find our way back from whence we got lost.

Number 21. Al-Basit- the Reliever, the Withholder, the Extender

See Al Baqarah: 245

Who is it that would loan Allah a goodly loan so He may multiply it for him many times over? And it is Allah who withholds and grants abundance, and to Him you will be returned.

Investments in community and the well-being of others needn’t be unprofitable. Nor does the quest for wealth have to be corrupt and debauched.

Number 22.Al- Khafid, The Abaser

The most beautiful names belong to Allah: so call on Him by them; but shun such men as use profanity in His names: for what they do, they will soon be requited (Ayah Al-A’raf, verse 180)

Those who believe, and whose hearts find satisfaction in the remembrance of Allah: for without doubt in the remembrance of Allah do hearts find satisfaction. (Glorious Qur’an 13:28)

Human beings have an amazing capacity for submitting to the will of the Most Merciful, likewise they can show just how much capacity for indecency and acts of atrocity.

We are seeing the results of this now: Allah is permitting the end of life, the end of all comfort, happiness, the end of all time because this is what are working toward. Because are purposefully misdirected, and not observing the Sacrament of the Qu’ran, Allah has no choice but to let us fail and suffer.

When we want something else, we might still have what we need to make it happen.

Ar-Rafi The Exalter

Those who work for the benefit of others without expectation Exalt Allah, Who exalts them in return.

Al-Mu’iiz- The Giver of Honor

See Quran 3.26-28,

Say, “O Allah, Owner of Sovereignty, You give sovereignty to whom You will and You take sovereignty away from whom You will. You honor whom You will and You humble whom You will. In Your hand is [all] good. Indeed, You are over all things competent.

You cause the night to enter the day, and You cause the day to enter the night; and You bring the living out of the dead, and You bring the dead out of the living. And You give provision to whom You will without account.”

Let not believers take disbelievers as allies rather than believers. And whoever [of you] does that has nothing with Allah, except when taking precaution against them in prudence. And Allah warns you of Himself, and to Allah is the [final] destination.

Allah does not need to tell us why He is so generous or merciful, or why everyone is deserving of mercy, no matter how unseemly or impossible that is for us to believe or incorporate into our conduct.

When someone harms someone or something else, we are no longer in a position where we can offer mercy. Sometimes, extreme prejudice is often required to prevent undue harm inflicted by one person on another.

Acting swiftly and finally to protect the vulnerable is an expectation Muhammad had for all Muslims.

Al-Muzill- the Giver of Dishonor

3:30 – The Day every soul will find what it has done of good present [before it] and what it has done of evil, it will wish that between itself and that [evil] was a great distance. And Allah warns you of Himself, and Allah is Kind to [His] servants.”

It is easy to think Allah judges others, tallies their sins and tells you the penance. Real human beings perform Dua at all times in order to maintain their approach the Seat. The closer one gets to the First Seat, Al Maqead the farther they are from dishonor and the dishonorable.

As-Sami- The Hearing

Al Baqarah 2: 128-131

Our Lord, and make us Muslims [in submission] to You and from our descendants a Muslim nation [in submission] to You. And show us our rites and accept our repentance. Indeed, You are the Accepting of repentance, the Merciful.

Our Lord, and send among them a messenger from themselves who will recite to them Your verses and teach them the Book and wisdom and purify them. Indeed, You are the Exalted in Might, the Wise.”

And who would be averse to the religion of Abraham except one who makes a fool of himself. And We had chosen him in this world, and indeed he, in the Hereafter, will be among the righteous.

When his Lord said to him, “Submit”, he said “I have submitted [in Islam] to the Lord of the worlds.

The sense of hearing is the only one we cannot refuse. A fool will refuse knowledge and listen to idiots, an ordinary man does the opposite.

Al-Basir- The All Seeing

4:58

Indeed, Allah commands you to render trusts to whom they are due and when you judge between people to judge with justice. Excellent is that which Allah instructs you. Indeed, Allah is ever Hearing and Seeing.

17: 1

Exalted is He who took His Servant by night from al-Masjid al-Haram to al-Masjid al- Aqsa, whose surroundings We have blessed, to show him of Our signs. Indeed, He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

42:11

[He is] Creator of the heavens and the earth. He has made for you from yourselves, mates, and among the cattle, mates; He multiplies you thereby. There is nothing like unto Him, and He is the Hearing, the Seeing.

42: 27

And if Allah had extended [excessively] provision for His servants, they would have committed tyranny throughout the earth. But He sends [it] down in an amount which He wills. Indeed He is, of His servants, Acquainted and Seeing.

Although these verses explain how keen is Allah’s Eyesight, that is not their point.

They instead refer to our lack of discretion and balance. We view life with bias, anger, fear, and greed, and allow their superstitions to taint us.

It is not enough to show moderation. This implies we have already chosen to be stingy or overindulgent.

The earth has been provisioned with enough for everyone upon to live well within reason, Equitable distribution of its bounty requires each of us to maintain a solid commitment to prosperity for all. This pledge to serve life on earth so it can serve us in return must never be subject to tyrannical politics or the false doctrines of evil religions.

Al-Hakam, the Judge

See 22:69

“Allah will judge between you on the Day of Resurrection concerning that over which you used to differ.”

Muhammad said, “If Allah were to resurrect you, you would live again” except there is no such thing as resurrection. We know this because Muhammad passed away in a state of great sorrow and Allah did not resurrect him. Surely Muhammad, the Most Worthy of Men would have been resurrected first, and certainly by now if this was something Allah allows.

The day you give up on this silly idea is the day your real life on earth will fully matter to you.

Al-‘Adi العدل The Just.

See Al Ankabut 39-40

“(Remember also) Qarun, Pharaoh, and Haman: there came to them Moses with Clear Signs, but they behaved with insolence on the earth; yet they could not overreach (Us) . Each one of them We seized for his crime: of them, against some We sent a violent tornado (with showers of stones); some were caught by a (mighty) Blast; some We caused the earth to swallow up; and some We drowned (in the waters): it was not Allah Who injured (or oppressed) them: they injured (and oppressed) their own souls.”

Hiding in the dark, not yet between the worlds, eyes hungry with lust, are those that shun the gaze of Allah, Whose Eyes never wander, for they are Merciful. To Whom Else would you turn?

Fire without light or warmth, smoke that does not clear the mind, acting within the forms of men without a human heart, are the charnel souls of the fifth seat.

They are the granters of wishes, their own. It is an affront to the Will of Allah, because only He knows what men desire the most in their hearts and remains the Most Just. To Whom Else would you turn?

How far can a man travel and yet not be in range of Allah? How far can he fall, how softly can he speak that that Allah would not notice? To Whom Else would you turn?”

Al-Latif, the Gentle, the Kind

6: 103

Vision perceives Him not, but He perceives [all] vision; and He is the Subtle, the Acquainted.

22: 63

Do you not see that Allah has sent down rain from the sky and the earth becomes green? Indeed, Allah is Subtle and Acquainted.

31: 16

And Luqman said, “O my son, indeed if wrong should be the weight of a mustard seed and should be within a rock or [anywhere] in the heavens or in the earth, Allah will bring it forth. Indeed, Allah is Subtle and Acquainted.

33: 34

And remember what is recited in your houses of the verses of Allah and wisdom. Indeed, Allah is ever Subtle and Acquainted [with all things].

Humanity values God’s kindness and gentleness, but how much? Enough to be kind to each other? Or are our standards for God much higher than those we have for ourselves?

Al-Khabir, The All Aware

6:18

And He is the subjugator over His servants. And He is the Wise, the Acquainted [with all].

17:30

Indeed, your Lord extends provision for whom He wills and restricts [it]. Indeed He is ever, concerning His servants, Acquainted and Seeing.

49:13

O mankind, indeed We have created you from male and female and made you peoples and tribes that you may know one another. Indeed, the most noble of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you. Indeed, Allah is Knowing and Acquainted.

59:18

O you who have believed, fear Allah . And let every soul look to what it has put forth for tomorrow – and fear Allah. Indeed, Allah is Acquainted with what you do.

Light subjugates the darkness, gravity subjugates space, the wind subjugates the vital gas of oxygen and gives us breath. The Most Merciful subjugates sin with Mercy, ignorance with His Verses.
Men want to subjugate desire with ownership of more things and thus, we allow lust to subjugate our hearts.

This is why we need Allah and the Qu’ran, to lead us back to an honest, intelligent and sustainable way of life. Without a shame free and optimistic perspective on all that is going awry, without Allah’s Expansive Presence in our lives, this is not possible.

The ability to redirect all of our activities instantly from right to wrong, cheap to charitable, cruel to compassion is said to be the result of the interaction between our minds and the Light of Nur, or Allah’s Intelligence.

Anyone at any time can change the course of their behavior, any culture, community or nation can as well. The need for course correction in human affairs caused the Archangel Jibril to seek the Prophet, endow him with Nur so he cold deliver the Qu’ran to us.

Al-Halim, The All Forbearing, The Indulgent

2: 235

There is no blame upon you for that to which you [indirectly] allude concerning a proposal to women or for what you conceal within yourselves. Allah knows that you will have them in mind. But do not promise them secretly except for saying a proper saying. And do not determine to undertake a marriage contract until the decreed period reaches its end. And know that Allah knows what is within yourselves, so beware of Him. And know that Allah is Forgiving and Forbearing.

17: 44

The seven heavens and the earth and whatever is in them exalt Him. And there is not a thing except that it exalts [ Allah ] by His praise, but you do not understand their [way of] exalting. Indeed, He is ever Forbearing and Forgiving.

22: 59

He will surely cause them to enter an entrance with which they will be pleased, and indeed, Allah is Knowing and Forbearing.

35:41

Indeed, Allah holds the heavens and the earth, lest they cease. And if they should cease, no one could hold them [in place] after Him. Indeed, He is Forbearing and Forgiving.

There is a broad range of Verses that explain what Allah Forebears. He forebears the existence and needs of women you can too.

The environment and web if life always exalt Allah. Have you ever seen a plant or an animal that wasn’t glad to be alive? Human beings are the only creatures that turn life into an insipid, difficult, painful, and dreadful experience. Muhammad said, “you do not understand their way of exalting.”

To Exalt Allah for the gift of…everything is why we testify Al Shahada. We start there and end there so that we develop a habit of recognizing Allah deserves our thanks for every second we are alive, and that other people deserve a chance to praise Allah -especially those who live in conditions that would make this idea seem preposterous.

People should not have to forebear extreme poverty, tyranny, preventable loss of life and opportunity. This is why Muhammad prescribed sadaqah, dua, salaat, and zakah as every day activities so that we remember not to forget.

Al-‘Azim, The Great The Magnificent

2: 255

Allah – there is no deity except Him, the Ever-Living, the Sustainer of [all] existence. Neither drowsiness overtakes Him nor sleep.

To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is on the earth. Who is it that can intercede with Him except by His permission?

He knows what is [presently] before them and what will be after them, and they encompass not a thing of His knowledge except for what He wills. His Kursi extends over the heavens and the earth, and their preservation tires Him not. And He is the Most High, the Most Great.

42:4

To Him belongs whatever is in the heavens and whatever is in the earth, and He is the Most High, the Most Great.

59:96

So exalt the name of your Lord, the Most Great.

Christians call the invisible order of the universe the Holy Spirit, Hindus call it Atman, the Qu’ran refers to an invisible and intangible instrument that organizes creation into a habitable place called Kursi.

Kursi is where we and Allah are collocated and conduct all of our relationships with one another. Dissimilar to Atman and the Holy Spirit, Allah’s Kursi is considered to be personal and impersonal. It is the sum of all natural phenomena and is a Being we can know.

Al-Ghafur, The Most Forgiving

41:32

As accommodation from a [Lord who is] Forgiving and Merciful.

2:173

He has only forbidden to you dead animals, blood, the flesh of swine, and that which has been dedicated to other than Allah . But whoever is forced [by necessity], neither desiring [it] nor transgressing [its limit], there is no sin upon him. Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

8:69

So consume what you have taken of war booty [as being] lawful and good, and fear Allah . Indeed, Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.

Then, indeed your Lord, to those who emigrated after they had been compelled [to renounce their religion] and thereafter fought [for the cause of Allah ] and were patient – indeed, your Lord, after that, is Forgiving and Merciful.

41:32

As accommodation from a [Lord who is] Forgiving and Merciful.”

Muhammad yearned for a time when civilization would give up the impossible standards and rules of other religions and enjoy life.

He says in the Qu’ran “If you are hungry, Allah gives you food so that you can eat. When you work, Allah gives you compensation, when you make an error, Allah is the Most Forgiving.”

We are still trying to encourage humanity to outgrow its obsolete ideas of a rules-based God and embrace one that allows us to live.
